Gbajabiamila: Amend Constitution To Recognize Amotekun

Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has directed the Leader of the House, Hassan Ado Dogwa to bring a bill that will amend the 1999 constitution to recognize Amotekun and other similar security outfits in the country.

The Speaker stated this in his welcome address on Wednesday. In his speech, Gbajabiamila said that the emergence of Amotekun and similar security outfits was as a result of the manifestation gaps in the security architecture in the country.

The Amotekun security outfit launched by the governors of the 6 southwest states has caused controversy, especially between the Federal government

The Chairman of the South East Governors Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, on Wednesday, said that the governors and stakeholders of the zone have concluded arrangements to kick- start regional security out fit in the south east zone.

Resign Or Be Sacked – House Of Reps Tells Service Chiefs

Lawmakers of the House of Representatives have unanimously asked Service Chiefs in the country to immediately resign.

The lawmakers noted that the service Chiefs have outlived their usefulness to the nation.

According to members of the Nigerian lower legislative chamber, the Service Chiefs have not been able to address the security challenges confronting the country since 2015.

The call was made following a motion of urgent public importance moved by the Chief Whip of the House, Hon, Mohammed Tahir Mongunu and 14 others.

Details Of Makinde’s Meeting With IG Of Police Emerge

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, met the Inspector General of Police, IGP Adamu Mohammed in Abuja on Wednesday, over Amotekun and the Local Government crisis in the state.

The Governor, who spoke to newsmen at the premises of the Force Headquarters, stated that he had briefed the IGP on the security situation in the state.

PDP Backs Calls For Buhari’s Resignation, Gives Reasons

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has backed the call by the Senate Minoriry Leader, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, asking President Muhammadu Buhari to resign.

Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP National Publicity Secretary, in a statement on Wednesday, said it supported the call because Buhari had displayed a disheartening dereliction of duty.

PDP recalled comments by Buhari expressing surprise at the heightened insecurity across the country as defeatist, demoralizing and traumatizing.

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to demand for his resignation by Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe and others.
