2020 Budget: Senate Okays ₦238.15bn For Customs

The Senate, on Tuesday, okayed the sum of ₦238,149,325,832.70 for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for 2020 fiscal budget.

This approval was sequel to an adoption of the presentation by the committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and subsequent consideration at plenary.

DAILY POST also learnt that Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has warned MDAs to submit their audited accounts or risk punitive measures.

Senator Francis Alimikhena, who is chairman of the committee, said out of the total expenditure for the year 2020, N98.61 billion representing 41.41 percent is for Personnel cost; N15.95 billion representing 6.70 percent is for Overhead Cost;

Court Issues Arrest Warrant For Ex-President, Jacob Zuma

A court in South Africa has issued an arrest warrant for former president, Jacob Zuma.

The judge, Dhaya Pillay, ordered his arrest ahead of the corruption trial which resumes on May 6.

Zuma had failed to appear in court on grounds of needing medical treatment.

During the court session on Tuesday, Zuma’s lawyer, Dan Mantsha, presented the judge with a sick note from “a military hospital”.

Mantsha claimed that his client was abroad for medical treatment, without saying where.

But the judge refused to accept and said there was no medical number showing if and where the doctor was certified.

Ohanaeze Dismisses Abaribe’s Call As Selfish

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, on Monday dismissed the controversial call by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign from office for alleged failure to provide adequate security across the country as selfish and handiwork of a fifth columnist.

It also accused Abaribe who represents Abia South Senatorial district of having a disconnect with the Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation.

Ohanaeze said Abaribe’s action was a personal political gimmick designed to manipulate the conscience and emotions of the citizens for his personal gains.

Boko Haram Not Targeting Only Christians – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally reacted to the beheading of the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Adamawa State, Lawan Andimi.

DAILY POST reported that Andimi, who was the Chairman of CAN, in Adamawa State was beheaded by Boko Haram a few weeks ago.

Former Deputy Majority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Pally Iriase, Tuesday called for a probe of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki over alleged ₦250billion he collected as revenue in the last four years of his administration.
