ARP Presidential Candidate Urges Buhari To Sign Electoral Bill

Alhaji Yahaya Ndu of the defunct African Renaissance Party (ARP) presidential candidate in 2011 and 2013 General Elections, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to accent the electoral bill into law.

Ndu made the appeal while reacting to the conduct of Sept. 19 governorship election in Edo state.

According to him, accenting into law would further strengthen the country’s electoral process.

He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for successful and peaceful conduct of the election.

Ndu also said that the electoral bill would guarantee more credible and transparent elections in the country.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Monday presented Certificates of Returns to Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu.

Obaseki emerged winner of the governorship election held in Edo State on Saturday, polling 307,955 votes to defeat his contestant, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC, who got 223,619 votes.

Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari has paid over ₦70.99 billion pension and gratuities to retirees.

This was confirmed by the State Head of Service, Alhaji Idris Tune, on Monday.

Tune told members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Katsina Chapter, on Monday, that more than ₦29.62 billion of the amount was paid to retirees under the state government.

US Announces ‘UN’ Sanctions On Iran, Venezuela’s Maduro

The United States said Monday it was imposing sanctions on Iran’s defense ministry and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro under a UN authority which is widely contested.

“For nearly two years corrupt officials in Tehran have worked with the illegitimate regime in Venezuela to flout the UN arms embargo,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters.

“Our actions today are a warning that should be heard worldwide.”

Pompeo said that President Donald Trump has issued an executive order “that is a new and powerful tool to enforce the UN arms embargo.”
