The Federal Government says Nigeria deserves a befitting 60th-anniversary celebration because the country remains one despite the various challenges it has been facing.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said this on Thursday in Abuja at a press conference to unveil activities earmarked for the celebration. He was joined at the briefing by the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami; and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq.

Gov Bello Orders Suspension Of Mining Activities In Niger

Governor Sani Bello of Niger has ordered the immediate suspension of all mining activities in six areas in the state over continued bandits’ attacks.

This is contained in a statement by Alhaji Ahmed Matane, Secretary to the State Government, issued in Minna on Thursday.

He listed the areas affected to include: Gurmana in Shiroro Local Government Area, Anguwan Kampani, M.I. Wushishi Housing Estate, College of Education, Army Barracks, and Lapan-Gwari in Chanchaga Local Government Area of the state.

Matane said the decision become necessary following security, health, and environmental hazards, as well as illicit drug peddling in the areas.

Diri Fights On To Retain Bayelsa Governor’s Seat

Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa on Thursday in Abuja, asked the Court of Appeal to reverse the decision of the Bayelsa Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which nullified the Nov.16, 2019 governorship poll in the state.

Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have also approached the appellate court asking it to reverse the tribunal’s judgement.

In their separate appeals, the appellants prayed the court to uphold that the conduct of the governorship election and its outcome which produced Diri as governor complied with relevant laws.

Iwo kingmakers have petitioned Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola to remove their monarch, Abdulrasheed Adewale, the Oluwo of Iwoland over his alleged criminal past.

They alleged that Abdulrasheed was convicted in the United States of America in 1998 and Canada between 2006 to 2007.
