Trump Hits Biden Over ‘Liberal’ Abortion Stance

President Donald Trump assailed White House rival Joe Biden on Tuesday for telling voters that he would seek to enshrine abortion rights in US law should the Supreme Court overturn Roe v Wade.

During a televised town hall late Monday, the Democratic nominee said he would aim to make the 1973 high court ruling that established a nationwide right to abortion as “the law of the land.”

West Africa Bloc ECOWAS Lifts Post-Coup Sanctions On Mali

The West African regional bloc ECOWAS announced Tuesday that it was ending sanctions imposed against Mali after a military coup in August, saying it wished to back the return to civilian rule.

In a statement, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) said “heads of state and government have decided to lift sanctions” after noting positive steps towards a constitutional government.

It noted the publication of a roadmap for the transition period.

The 15-nation group imposed tough sanctions against one of Africa’s poorest countries after president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita was ousted following mass protests.

Coronavirus: Ghana Partly Reopens Schools

The Ghanaian Government on Monday reopened schools for second-year students in junior and senior high schools across the country after seven months of closure due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The reopening is to enable the students to complete the course work for the 2019/2020 academic year.

The Ghana Education Service said the government has put in place necessary measures, including fumigation and disinfection of all schools and supply of personal protective equipment to ensure the safety of the students.

Ghanaian schools were closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak on March 16.
