President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure that the October 10 gubernatorial election in Ondo State is peaceful, transparent and credible.

President Buhari also assured the electorate in Ondo of the provision of adequate security to forestall any breach of the peace by unscrupulous elements.

Nuhu Bamalli: Mallawa House Produces New Emir Of Zazzau

The Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday, approved the appointment of Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli as the 19th Emir of Zazzau.

He succeeds HRH Alh. (Dr.) Shehu Idris who died on Sunday, 20th September 2020 after reigning for 45 years.

In a statement on Wednesday by Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani said, Alh. Bamalli is the first emir from the Mallawa ruling house in 100 years, following the demise in 1920 of his grandfather, Emir Dan Sidi.

The UN refugee chief said Wednesday that he had tested positive for Covid-19 after leading the first day of the agency’s main annual meeting in person.

Filippo Grandi, who kicked off UNHCR’s week-long Executive Committee meeting in Geneva on Monday, told participants via video-link that he would need to continue following the event from home.

“I am engaging with UNHCR’s Executive Committee from home as I have to isolate after testing positive to #COVID19,” he said in a tweet.

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has approved the release of the 2019 promotion of 2,248 workers in the state.

Gov Oyetola Approves ₦708m For Pension Payment

The Governor of Osun state, Adegboyega Oyetola has approved the release of the sum of ₦708 million to offset pension arrears of retired civil servants in the state.

Mr Festus Olowogboyega, the state Head of Service, said in a statement that 508 million was approved for the payment of pension of retired civil servants, while ₦150 million was approved to pay retirees under the contributory pension scheme.

He added that additional ₦50 Million was approved for part payment of the gratuities of retired officers under the old pensions scheme.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP), has called on the Federal Government to resolve lingering issues associated with the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

Mr Phillip Ogunsipe, National President of the association, made the call in a communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting on Tuesday in Abuja.

A decade-old legal battle between Silicon Valley giants Oracle and Google over software rights moves to the Supreme Court Wednesday, in a case with enormous implications for copyright in the digital era.
