The National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, on Thursday, explained how the regimes of General Aguiyi Ironsi, General Yakubu Gowon, and General Olusegun Obasanjo relegated the traditional institution to the background and made them as powerless as they appear today.

The Chairman of the council and the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, stated that General Ironsi’s 1966 Unitary Government Decree, General Gowon’s and General Obasanjo’s 1967 and 1976 Local Government Reforms Decrees respectively, technically stripped traditional rulers of their powers and gave same to the Local Government Councils.

Self-acclaimed Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho has stated that his agitation is for the freedom of the Yoruba nation and he was never going to give up the dream.

Igboho made this revelation in a statement issued by his media aide, Olayomi Koiki on Thursday while calling on anyone willing to join the agitation for Yoruba nation to join the group.

Members of the Nigerian House of Representatives on Thursday revealed that it is broke and cannot afford to carry out its constitutional mandate effectively.

Rep. Benjamin Kalu (APC-Abia), the spokesman for the House, made this disclosure when he spoke with newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.

In a renewed bid to stem the spate of insecurity occasioned by banditry in Zamfara State, President Muhammadu Buhari has given bandits operating in forests in the state 60 days to surrender.

The association of herders in Nigeria known as the Miyetti Allah Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has stated that it is tired of open grazing in Ondo State, calling on the government to provide alternatives as a way to put the frequent herdsmen/ farmers’ crises to an end.

Following moves by the National Assembly to remove the national minimum wage from the exclusive to the concurrent legislative list, the Nigerian Labour Congress on Tuesday threatened to embark on a nationwide protest to protest the development.

In a statement on Tuesday, the NLC said the protest will hold in the 36 states’ Houses of Assembly and is expected to commence on Wednesday.
