‘Kenya Violated Our Territory’, Somalia Tells Court

Somalia has completed its submissions to the International Court of Justice by arguing that Kenya has repeatedly violated its territorial integrity while urging the ICC to do the ‘right thing’

Lawyers acting for Somalia accused Kenya of prospecting for oil in the disputed area, and even digging a well north of the disputed border.

Somalia’s lawyers also said Kenya had admitted to licensing at least five oil companies to explore for oil in the disputed area.

Somalia wants the licenses revoked and all prospecting halted.

A highly rated United States official working on Afghanistan has warned Congress that a withdrawal of US troops from the country without first brokering a peace agreement between the Afghan government and the Taliban would be ‘a disaster’.

13% Derivation Too Little For Oil Producing States – Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Tuesday, intensified the call for upward review of  the 13 percent derivation formula, saying it had remained inadequate for the development of the South-South. 

Obaseki made the call while speaking with newsmen after inaugurating Effurun-Otor-Ovwor-Olomu bridge and the rehabilitated 34-km Otu-Jeremi-Okwagbe Road in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta, executed by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa which he was invited to commission.

He said that the peculiarity of the environment in the South-South had made it quite expensive to develop infrastructure, especially roads, in the area.

Remove Polling Units From Homes Of Individuals, BON Tells INEC

The Chairman, Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), Hajia Sa’a Ibrahim, has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to relocate polling units from the homes of traditional and religious leaders and other important dignitaries in the country.

Hajia Sa’a Ibrahim sent the appeal during INEC’s consultative meeting with labour unions and professional associations on the proposed expansion of voter access to polling units in Nigeria which was held in Abuja on Tuesday’

According to her, the siting of the polling units in some of those locations was giving the Commission a bad image.

The Federal Government is going to consult widely before terminating the existing subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, this is according to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
