Despite Insecurity, Buhari Has Achieved So Much – Lai Moh’d

Nigeria’s Information Minister, Lai Mohammed has claimed that insecurity in Nigeria will not define the legacy of President Muhammadu Buhari noting that he has performed beyound expectations.

He made the comment yesterday at a press conference on the mid-term anniversary of Buhari’s second tenure.

Mohammed said though more attention has been given to insecurity, the challenge will not overshadow the successes of the Nigerian leader.

Buhari Writes Senate To Confirm Yahaya As COAS

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the Senate to confirm the appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya.

Buhari’s request was contained in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and read during resumption of plenary on Tuesday.

The President, in the letter, said Yahaya’s appointment was in compliance with the provisions of Section 18 subsection 1 of the Armed Forces Act 2004.

Kenya Threatens To Ban Somalia’s Humanitarian Flights

Kenya has warned that it may impose a total ban on flights from Somalia including those on humanitarian missions that Somalia was exploring loopholes to undermine their bilateral relationship.

The foreign affairs ministry said in a letter to diplomatic missions that humanitarian flights were being misused for ‘bilateral and political matters’ even after Kenya had suspended flights.

Kenya recently suspended flights from the neighbouring country but exempted medical emergency evacuation flights and those on UN humanitarian missions.

No fewer than six people were killed, including a woman who was burned alive, during an attack blamed on the regional militia group ADF in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Allied Democratic Forces were believed to have carried out the overnight attack on a road near the border with Uganda, where the group was founded.

Reconsider Position On ₦385 Pump Price, Senator Warns Govs

The Chairman Senate Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Senator Gershom Bassey, has  state governors against pushing for an increment in the pump price of the Premium Motor Spirit, better known as petrol.

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum had during its virtual meeting  on  May 20, considered the report of a committee headed by the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and accepted its recommendation that supported a full deregulation of the petroleum industry.

The El-Rufai panel was said to have suggested that the pump price of the product should hover around N385 per litre.
