Zimbabwe’s army commander, Lt.-Gen. Edzayi Chimonyo has been reported dead after succumbing to cancer, an official presidential spokesman has revealed.

The death is a huge blow given that the army holds a huge influence in Zimbabwean politics.

In November 2017, the army stepped in to oust the late Robert Mugabe and pave way for incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

US President, Joe Biden has reaffirmed his unalloyed support to Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido.

Biden made this known in a letter on Monday even in the midst of efforts to resume negotiations with President Nicolas Maduro’s government.

No fewer than six secondary school children were among nine Hong Kongers arrested on terror charges for allegedly trying to manufacture a powerful explosive, police announced yesterday.

Five males and four females aged between 15 and 39 were arrested yesterday by the authorities on suspicion of ‘conspiracy to use explosives for terrorist activities’, police said.

‘Speaking to reporters, a senior superintendent Steve Li, from the city’s new national security unit, explained that TATP is a high-powered explosive. President Muhammadu Buhari has showered praises on the Nigerian Army over what he described as saving the country from disintegration.

Buhari also thanked the troops for demonstrating a high level of professionalism in the discharge of its operations.

Tension has continued to rise as South Africa’s police minister on Monday revealed that he was awaiting court instructions on whether to arrest ex-president Jacob Zuma, who has been handed a 15-month jail term for contempt.
