Senate Disagrees With FG Over Embargo On Employment

The Nigeria Senate has lashed at the Federal Government for embargoed employment in Nigeria and yearly increase in workers’ salaries, saying that the development was creating a ticking time bomb.

The Senate Committee on Establishment pointed out this on Thursday during a 2022 budget defence at the National Assembly, Abuja.

Senate’s anger was triggered by yearly increase in the recurrent expenditure component of the budget which was submitted by the Chairman of National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission ( NSIWC), Mr Ekpo Nta before the Senate Committee on Establishment.

Okowa Presents ₦469.5bn 2022 Budget To State Assembly

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta on Thursday presented a budget proposal of ₦469.5 billion for the 2022 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly for approval.

Okowa, while presenting the budget, Christened “Budget of inclusive growth and accelerated development” to the state Assembly in Asaba, showed an increase of ₦85.54 billion over that of 2021 approved budget of ₦383.9 billion.

Bandits: Nigerian Railway Corporation Suspends Operations

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has suspended its operations after bandits detonated explosives on the tracks serving the Abuja-Kaduna line.

The attack, which took place between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, left passengers traumatised, with reports that the attackers also fired live rounds into driver compartments.

Confirming the incident, Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, revealed that the train he boarded ran into a portion damaged by explosives used in attacking a Kaduna-Abuja train, adding that he narrowly escaped death.

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has claimed that there is no evidence to show that any protester was killed at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020.

He made this assertion during a press conference held in Abuja as young people took to the streets nationwide to mark the first anniversary of the #EndSARS protests.
