South Africa’s Last White President, dE Klerk Is Dead

FW de Klerk, South Africa’s last white president, died on Thursday aged 85, his foundation announced.

De Klerk and South Africa’s first black president Nelson Mandela shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for leading the “miracle” transition from white rule in the country.

He died after a battle with cancer, his foundation said in a statement.

US Secretary Of State To Visit Nigeria, Kenya, And Senegal

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has announced plans to travel to Nigeria, Kenya, and Senegal next week, where he is expected to discuss ways to end the Covid-19 pandemic and battle climate change.

According to a statement made available by his spokesman, Blinken will meet with the president of each country to ‘advance US-Africa collaboration on shared global priorities,’ state department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.

Other topics of conversation on the agenda for the Monday to Saturday trip include revitalizing democracies, advancing peace and security, and a more inclusive global economy, Price said.

The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide has carpeted the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, for not doing enough to protect the interest of the Niger Delta region in the ₦621.2 billion road projects to be undertaken across the country by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
