Evacuation: We ‘Didn’t Know’ Russia Would Invade Ukraine –FG

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama yesterday defended the Federal Government of Nigeria’s response to the evacuation of Nigerians in Ukraine by saying that the country never expected Russia to invade Ukraine.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today which was monitored by Africa Daily News, New York, the Minister pointed out that it was difficult to plan ahead because the Nigerian government didn’t know how the situation would evolve and therefore had no clues of what to expect.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymr Zelensky has declared that prisoners with military experience willing to fight the Russians will be released in the coming days to join the raging war.

Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Saturday, announced new dates for the 2023 elections following Thursday’s signing of the electoral bill by President Buhari.
