There was no visible reaction from drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán as the verdict was read in his federal trial: guilty on all 10 counts. Guzmán, who led a lucrative yet bloody criminal empire that reached far beyond his native Mexico, faces spending the rest of his life in prison.

He’ll be sentenced in June. Despite the conviction, experts say the outcome will have little impact on the operations of Guzmán’s Sinaloa drug cartel, the world’s largest drug trafficking organization.

The plan to force Shell out of the oil business

Climate activists are threatening to sue Royal Dutch Shell to try to force it out of the oil business. A bloc of environmental groups in the Netherlands, where the company is based, says it wants to get a court ruling that would compel Shell to move away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy.

The groups say Shell is “deliberately obstructing” efforts to keep global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius, the key goal of the Paris agreement.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority ( NCAA ) on Tuesday said it was yet to identify the airline that had a worn out aircraft tyre trending on social media

Its spokesman, Sam Adurogboye, said though it was yet to establish the carrier whose aircraft allegedly had such a worn out tyre but insisted in line with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Standard and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig.CARs) no airline operator can embark on commercial air transportation for hire and reward without airworthy operating aircraft.

CCT chairman reports only to the Presidency, NBA affirms

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) said on Tuesday that it agreed with the argument by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal ( CCT ), Danladi Umar that he and his tribunal were not answerable to the Judiciary, but the Presidency.

Angola decriminalises homosexuality

The Angolan Parliament voted to abolish the abolish the legislation criminalizing homosexuality which dated back to 1886, when the country was still under the colonial rule of the Portuguese.

With the recent act of parliament, every discrimination based on sexual orientation in the country has been banned; and People who refuse to hire others because of their sexual orientation can now face up to two years in prison.
