China builds 158 Internet hospitals to control congestion

China’s medical authority said on Wednesday that 158 Internet hospitals had been built, to address congestion in large urban hospitals amid digital tide.

Mao Qun’an, a director of the National Health Commission, said at the second Digital China Summit that 19 provinces, or over half of China’s provincial-level regions, had established provincial tele-medicine platforms.

The central government has also earmarked 99 million U.S. dollars in special funds to add tele-medical and other equipment in primary-level health institutions in impoverished counties.

Akwa Ibom: Cameroonian Gendarmes kill scores of Nigerians

Scores of Nigerians were feared killed and others missing following an alleged attacks by Cameroonian gendarmes on Abana, a fishing community on the fringes the Bakassi Peninsula.

US to send hospital ship to Venezuela to help refugees

A U.S. Navy hospital ship will embark on another humanitarian mission to help countries cope with an influx of Venezuelans fleeing a deep economic and political crisis, the Trump administration announced Tuesday.

NDLEA nabs 9,824 drug suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it arrested 9,824 suspected drug offenders and recovered 316,365.47 kilogrammes of illicit drugs in 2018.

Head of Public Affairs of the agency, Mr Jonah Achema, disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

Achema said that 9,122 of the nabbed suspects were males while 702 were females, adding that the agency prosecuted 1, 245 offenders during the period.

He said that the agency secured 1, 236 convictions, while seven cases were acquitted and two struck out.

Qatar donates $480m in aid to Palestinians

Qatar has allocated 480 million dollars in aid to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

It said 180 million dollars of the amount will go to humanitarian relief, provide support for United Nations programmes and support electricity services.

The other 300 million dollars in grants and loans will support the health and education budget of the Palestinian Authority.

Jet crash between Las Vegas, Monterrey in Mexico kill 14

Mexican authorities have found the remains of a plane that disappeared after leaving from Las Vegas, amid reports all 14 people on board were killed.

The wreckage of the plane, a Bombardier Challenger 601, crashed in the mountainous region of Monclova, while on route to the northern Mexican city of Monterrey.

The remains were found about 130 miles northwest of the town of Monclova.

200 million West Africans live below poverty line

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Office for West Africa has raised the alarm that 200 million or 53.5 per cent of West Africans live below poverty line.

It said that West Africa had a population of about 377 million in 2018.
