King Charles Officially Named As King Of Australia, New Zealand

King Charles III has been officially named as the main monarch (King) in Australia and New Zealand on Sunday.

In Canberra, Governor-General David Hurley had also proclaimed “Prince Charles Philip Arthur George to be King Charles III, by grace of God, King of Australia”.

At a similar ceremony in Wellington, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern hailed Charles, saying he “has long had an affection for Aotearoa New Zealand, has consistently demonstrated his deep care for our nation”.

The two ceremonies had also been relative formalities.

Russia’s Defense Ministry on Sunday morning announced that it has resolved to pull back troops from two areas in Ukraine’s eastern Kharkiv region where a Ukrainian counter-offensive has made tremendous advances in the past week.

Strike: UNIBEN Staff Commits Suicide Over Financial Crisis

Amidst the ongoing strike in the country’s universities, a data entry staff of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prince Carter Oshodin, reportedly committed suicide on Saturday over his inability to cope financially.

He was reporrted to have taken his own life yesterday in Umelu community in Upper Sakponba area of Benin City.

Five people have been reported dead after a boat had flipped over in waters off of New Zealand’s South Island on Saturday, with some alleged “indications” that the vessel had capsized after colliding with a whale.

The boat, which had 11 people on board who were mostly from a bird-watching group, had capsized in calm waters soon after 10 am at Goose Bay, about 15 kilometres (nine miles) south of Kaikoura, according to local officials.

17 Civilians Killed By Rebel Group In DR Congo

Seventeen people died yesterday during a militia attack on a village in northeastern DR Congo, a local civil society head announced.

Gunmen from the feared CODECO militia stormed Mbidjo in Ituri province’s Djugu territory during the morning, said Jules Uwechi, chairman of the village’s civil society group.

‘They opened fire, set houses ablaze, and pillaged the property of villagers… I myself narrowly escaped,’ Uwechi said in the provincial capital Bunia.

At Least 700,000 People Commit Suicide Annually – WHO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has disclosed that more than 700,000 people commit suicide globally every year with 77 percent of all global suicides occurring in low and middle-income countries.

Dr Walter Mulombo, WHO Country Representative to Nigeria, made this disclosure in a message to commemorate the 2022 World Suicide Prevention Day.
