NLC Fumes Over Alleged Plot To De-Register ASUU, Warns FG

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has issued a stern warning against reported moves by the Federal Government to withdraw the registration license of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), over the non-submission of its audited financial returns for over five years.

While dismissing the claims that ASUU had not submitted its audited financial returns to the Registrar of Trade Unions for over five years as required by the law, NLC maintained that the Union has submitted all its financial reports up till 2021.

Four Confirmed Dead Following Building Collapse In Lagos

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) yesterday confirmed that four persons died while one was rescued in the building collapse at Oye Sonuga Street, Palm Avenue, in Mushin, Lagos.

Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye who is the NEMA South West Zonal Coordinator made this known to reporters in an interview on Saturday.

He said two males and two females died, while one person was rescued in the building collapse.

Earlier, the Lagos State Government also said it would investigate the cause of the building collapse.

We Will Appeal Court Ruling Asking Us To End Strike – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), says it will appeal the order by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) asking its members to call off the seven-month-long strike.

The University of Abuja chapter chairman of ASUU, Dr. Kasim Umar, stated this while reacting to the order by a court in Abuja.

Umar said the national executive Council of ASUU will meet today to conclude modalities on the appeal process.

Meanwhile, the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed, has advised the federal government to apply caution in handling the crisis with the union.
