Russian Diplomat Found Dead Outside Embassy In Berlin

A Russian diplomat was found dead in October outside the country’s embassy in Berlin, it emerged Friday.

The man, whose lifeless body was recovered on October 19 on the pavement by police, had apparently fallen to his death from the embassy complex, according to the Spiegel weekly which first reported the case.

A German foreign ministry spokesman said the case was “known to the ministry” but would not provide further details.

Confirming the death, the Russian embassy called it a “tragic accident”.

Protesting Pensioners Block Governor Ayade’s Office

Members of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) on Friday barricaded Governor Ben Ayade’s office in Calabar over several months of unpaid pensions and gratuities.

They bore placards demanding payment of pensions, gratuities and arrears of pensions owed them between August 2013 and November 2021.

They expressed regret, pain, hunger, anguish, untold hardship and frustration, saying the state government was insensitive to their plights.

They arrived Governor Ayade’s office when he was at the state House of Assembly for the funeral obsequious of late Mike Ogar, a former state legislator.

Global food prices jumped to a 10-year high in October, a UN agency announced on Thursday as it said the world’s cereal stocks were set to contract.

The Food and Agricultural Organization said its food price index, which tracks changes in the international prices of a basket of food commodities, rose three percent over the month to 133.2 points.
