No fewer than eleven civilians have been killed in the northwestern Central African Republic following series of bitter fighting between rebels and soldiers, despite a ceasefire in the country, the local prefect disclosed on Tuesday.

According to a prefect of Ouham-Pende who spoke to reporters, rebels ‘infiltrated the weekly market at around 10 am on Sunday’ near Mann, a town about 600 kilometres (370 miles) northwest of Bangui, Dieudonne Yougaina.

‘Central African forces intervened… and the exchange of fire left 11 civilians dead, nine men and two women, as well as eight wounded,’ he disclosed.

The death toll from the explosion which rocked a gas store at Ladipo, Mushin, Lagos on Tuesday has now risen to five.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that the incident occurred in the morning at Ojekunle Street in the ever-busy Ladipo community.

A Palestinian was killed Tuesday during dawn clashes with Israeli troops in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry and the Israeli army said. 

Saddam Bani Odeh, 26, died in hospital from a bullet wound to the lungs following the clashes on the road into the northern town of Tubas, the ministry said.

Israel’s army said that during an operation to arrest two “suspects” in Tubas overnight, “live ammunition was fired towards (Israeli) troops and an explosive device was hurled from a passing vehicle”.

A member of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Jaha has called on the Armed Forces to change its strategy against Boko Haram and other insurgents.

The United States slammed Russia on Monday for conducting a ‘dangerous and irresponsible’ missile strike that blew up one of its own satellites, creating a debris cloud that forced the International Space Station’s crew to take evasive action.

The UN has announced that it has made 40 million dollars available to scale up humanitarian emergency operations in Ethiopia’s conflict-affected north.

A shooting near a US high school left five teenagers wounded on Monday, police said.

Officers in Aurora, Colorado were called to a park near Central High School where they found five people aged between 14 and 17 had been hurt, the Aurora Police Department said.
