WHO Scientists Study Omicron COVID Variant

World Health Organisation (WHO) said its experts, researchers in South Africa and around the world are conducting studies to better understand Omicron variant.

In a statement released Sunday, the global health agency said it is ‘not clear’ whether Omicron COVID variant is more transmissible or more severe than Delta variant.

On Friday, WHO labelled the COVID-19 variant identified in South Africa, ‘Omicron’, and described it a variant of concern due to its large number of mutations and possible faster rate of infection.

Over 22 Killed In Attack On DR Congo Camp

No fewer than 22 people were on Sunday murdered in an attack in a camp for displaced people in Ituri province in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that the armed group Cooperative for the Development of the Congo (Codeco) who are said to have opened fire on the camp have been blamed for the attack.

Twenty people were buried immediately in two common graves, while another two were buried later, the AFP news agency quoted a Red Cross official as saying.

Terrorists Plotting To Attack Military Bases – DSS Raises Alarm

The Department of State Services (DSS) on Sunday issued an alert over planned attacks by insurgents on Ogun border communities and other border communities in Nigeria.

In a leaked letter signed by the State Director of Security, Ogun State Command, M.B. Abdullahi which was obtained by Africa Daily News, New York, the DSS warned that it has intelligence that the insurgent is plotting to attack military bases in border towns.

The DSS also advised customs and other security agencies in the country to put counter-measures in place to frustrate the plot by the insurgents.

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has disclosed that 3,487,298 Nigerians have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 so far.

Dr Faisal Shuaib, the Executive Director, made this known at the start of mass vaccination in Nasarawa State.
