Mozambique Cyclone Death Toll Soars To 12

The death toll from a cyclone that struck Mozambique this week rose to 12 yesterday after devastating wind and rain lashed the southern African country over the weekend.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that Cyclone Gombe has affected more than 30,000 people while also injuring no fewer than 40 people, and also destroyed more than 3,000 homes since making landfall on Friday.

According to reports, powerful winds reaching 170 kilometres per hour (105 mph) and torrential rainfall have hit the northern Nampula province by the Indian Ocean and neighbouring Zambezia province particularly hard.

Kanu Will Be Freed On April 8, IPOB Boasts

Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has revealed that it expects nothing but freedom for its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, on or before April 8 when his case comes up again in court.

Russian Forces Abduct Ukrainian Mayor As War Rages On

Russian soldiers occupying southern Ukraine’s Melitopol on Saturday kidnapped the mayor of the city, President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukrainian officials have confirmed.

The Ukrainian parliament took to Twitter to announce the abduction saying; ‘A group of 10 occupiers kidnapped the mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov’.

‘He refused to cooperate with the enemy,’ it added.

It also went on to state that the mayor was seized when he was at the city’s crisis centre dealing with supply issues.

In a video message, Zelensky confirmed the abduction, calling Fedorov ‘a mayor who bravely defends Ukraine and the members of his community’.

Less than two days to the expiration of the warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the National President of the union, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke has accused the Federal Government of not caring enough for public varsities insisting that ‘nothing tangible has been done’.
