Monkeypox Outbreak: Nigeria Intensifies Surveillance

The Nigerian government has announced that it is presently working with stakeholders to intensify surveillance and prevent the outbreak of monkeypox which is becoming a source of serious concern around the world. 

Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohammad Abubakar, made the disclosure on Friday in Abuja.

The official said the points of entry for wildlife were under scrutiny while awareness among hunting communities is ongoing.

The Yanoko village in the Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State was thrown into sadness on Friday when a swarm of bees attacked and killed a 13-year-old boy, Ismail Hussaini.

In response to the case of the controversial 6th edition of the NBC code which has been running in court, the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos declared illegal the 6th edition of the National Broadcasting Code issued by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Controversial Ibadan-based broadcaster and publisher, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, who was recently detained by the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) of Nigeria Police Force, has been released.

Africa Daily News, New York can recall that Hamzat was arrested in the early hours of Thursday in Ibadan, Oyo State capital and was then taken to Abuja for interrogation.

As the spate of insurgency and Islamist violence rises in northern Mozambique, at least three people have been beheaded in a new outbreak, the police reported on Wednesday.

“Last Friday, terrorists invaded some farms in the first village in Macomia district and beheaded three citizens and kidnapped some women,” provincial police chief Vicente Chicote told AFP.
