Southwestern US Raises Alert Over Dangerous Heatwave

A large envelope of the southwestern United States was placed on red alert on Friday morning for a potentially deadly heatwave that could push temperatures as high as 47 degrees Celsius (117 Fahrenheit) over the coming days.

Millions of people in California, Nevada, and Arizona have now been warned to expect dangerous conditions for at least some of the weekend, with the National Weather Service advising residents to stay out of the sun.

While the region was usually heated up at this time of year, forecasters warned it would be considerably hotter than the average.

In a surprising turn of events, some of the alleged attackers of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, have been nabbed and detained by the Ondo State police.

A trending video shows a crowd protesting within the palace of the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye.

One of them could be heard saying: “They want to take them (suspects) to Akure. The youths are angry.”

Gunmen, last Sunday, invaded the church and murdered several worshippers, including women and children in Ondo.

In a fresh report gotten by Africa Daily News, New York, the Lagos State Police Command has debunked and downplayed the alleged viral WhatsApp voice-note claiming Fulanis have invaded Badagry in Lagos.

The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, in a freshly vetted report which is a response to the News that has been making rounds about the loss of some NIN details in their database has openly refuted reports that the National Identity Number, NIN, records of Nigerians are missing from its database.

NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, said reports that the commission lost 7.9 million NIN of Nigerians were false and misleading.

 Usman Baba who is the Inspector-General of Police has expressly approved the establishment of the Electoral Offences Desk at the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID).

The office will be supervised from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, with the Commissioner of Police, FCID, as the Desk Officer.

Baba equally approved that the unit is set up at State Commands nationwide, Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi announced on Tuesday.

The Government of Enugu State has commenced surveillance against the spread of monkeypox in the 14 local government areas of the State.
