Australian Gran Wins Malaysia Death Sentence Appeal

An Australian grandmother who claimed she was tricked into carrying drugs into Malaysia after falling for an online romance scam Tuesday won her final appeal against the death penalty and will be freed.

Maria Elvira Pinto Exposto was arrested in December 2014 while in transit at Kuala Lumpur airport with 1.1 kilos (2.4 pounds) of crystal methamphetamine stitched into the compartment of a backpack she was carrying.

EFCC To Re-Arraign Former Lagos Speaker Ikuforiji

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday fixed Dec. 11, for re-arraignment of a former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, charged with laundering ₦338.8 million.

Ikuforiji was charged alongside his former aide, Oyebode Atoyebi, on 54 counts.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that they were first arraigned on March 1, 2012, before Justice Okechukwu Okeke on a 20-count charge bordering on funds misappropriation and money laundering.

They, however, pleaded not guilty and were granted bail.

The defendants were subsequently re-arraigned before Justice Ibrahim Buba, following a re-assignment of the case.

A report that Turkey is supplying sophisticated weapons to Nigeria’s terror group, Boko Haram, is receiving attention at very high strategic level of the federal government, the Defence Headquarters told THISDAY yesterday.

200 Yahoo Boys Arrested In October – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said it recorded no fewer than 200 arrests of Internet fraud suspects, popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys’, in October alone.

The Acting Chairman of the commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, stated this at an interactive session with newsmen on Friday in Abuja.

According to Magu, the biggest catch of the commission was Instagram celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, a.k.a Mompha, and his Lebanese accomplice, Hamza Koudeih.

He said the suspects, who were “kingpins of an Organised Cyber Syndicate Network (OCSN)”, allegedly laundered a total of N33 billion.

Army Officers Arrest Peddler With 60 Wraps Of Cocaine

 The 9 Brigade Command of the Nigeria Army, Ikeja Cantonment in Lagos State,  on Saturday paraded a hard drug peddler, Okafor Collins,  caught with 60 wraps of substance suspected to be cocaine.

The 30-year-old  suspect,  was arrested at 311 Road, adjacent Cincillati Club House, Festac Town.

The Commander of the Brigade, Brig. -Gen. Musa Etsu-Ndagi, told newsmen on Saturday that the suspect was arrested in the early hours of Friday.

Unfathomed atrocities were exposed recently when operatives of Eagle Crack Squad of the Rivers State Police Command, acting on a tip-off, stormed a hotel located at Mile 1, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, and busted a prostitution ring run by a 44-year-old kingpin identified as Esther Isama.

DPO, Bizman Kidnapped In Adamawa

A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Mubi North, Adamawa State, Ahidjo Mohammed, was kidnapped by gunmen around 7pm on Tuesday. The officer was kidnapped while returning to Mubi from Yola, where his mother had been receiving medical attention.

The kidnappers are demanding N50million ransom. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a  suspected most wanted serial rapist at the Egbeda area of the State.
The suspect, Chuks Emmanuel, is currently facing interrogation at the Area F Police Command, Ikeja , for alleged rape and fraud.

 One person was shot while many others were yesterday injured at the Igando area of Lagos State when members of the  National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW ), and the Road Transport Employers Association Of Nigeria (RTEAN) clashed. Dismissed Cop Arraigned For Murder Of Kolade Johnson

Dismissed police inspector, Ogunyemi Olalekan, was on Tuesday at an Ikeja High Court remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons after his arraignment for the alleged murder of Kolade Johnson, a 35-year-old man at a viewing center in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Olalekan, 45, during his arraignment pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.

Following his plea, Mr Yhaqub Oshoala, Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, requested that Olalekan who has been incarcerated at the Ikoyi Prison since his arrest, continue to be remanded at the facility.

One of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious debating societies has been slammed after a blind Ghanaian postgraduate student was ‘dragged by his ankles’ and thrown out of a debate in a ‘disgraceful’ incident.

A physically challenged mother, Latifa Umar, on Monday, dragged Rabiu Abdulrazak, a businessman to a Sharia court l sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna for allegedly having sex with her eight-year-old son.
The complainant, who resides at Kano road area of Kaduna, told the court that the defendant had been taking her son out without her consent.

“He used to take my son out to spend one or to two days with him; my son always comes home late at night; when I asked him about my son, he pushed me and called me a mad woman,” she said.
