Pandemonium As RRS Headquarters Is Gutted By Fire

There was pandemonium on Wednesday as headquarters of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, at the Lagos State Government Secretariat, Alausa, in Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria was gutted by fire.

The fire started around 11:40am, as smokes emanated from the roof of the one story building.

Police officers with their guns ran out of the building as attempts were made to quench the fire to no avail.

EFCC Docks Man For Pilfering Nigeria’s €3.8m

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC docked on Tuesday one Yushua Mohammed Ahmed before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on a four-count charge of stealing €3,808,870, said to be property of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Among other counts, Ahmed was alleged to have, between 29 September, 2010 and 26 October, 2010, in Lagos, converted to his own use €458,425.00 belonging to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

EFCC Reacts To Trending Photo Of ‘Port Harcourt Cell’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has reacted to a trending tweet showing pictures purported to be the EFCC Port Harcourt Zonal Office Holding Cell.

EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, in a statement on Tuesday, said the photos were a mischief and a calculated attempt to smear the agency’s reputation.

It noted that EFCC has a high degree of decency and cannot be the open dumping facility, surrounded by razor-wired walls, depicted in the picture.

Customs Seize 256 Bags Of Contraband Rice Hidden As Beans

The Adamawa/Taraba Command of the Nigerian Customs Services (NCS) has impounded a trailer load of 256 50kg bags of contraband rice, each bag hidden in bigger bags packed with beans.

Customs Area Comptroller, Kamardeen Olumoh, who addressed newsmen at the headquarters in Yola on Tuesday, said the trailer was impounded and brought to the headquarters with the rice and beans content from where it was seized along the Yola-Mubi road.

He said the rice was hidden and presented as beans to deceive Nigerian Customs personnel who have been enforcing federal government’s policy against importation of rice.

34 Suspected Commercial Sex Workers Arrested In Jigawa

The Jigawa State Shari’a Enforcement Command (Hisbah), says it has arrested 34 suspected commercial sex workers and confiscated 147 bottles of beer in Kazaure Local Government area of the state.

The Hisbah Commander in the state, Malam Ibrahim Dahiru, made disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Dutse.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says the Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), Chima Igwe, has not been awarded a PhD degree.
