Bandits Attack Niger State, Abduct Several Chinese Nationals

Gunmen on Thursday attacked a mining site in Ajata- Aboki, Gurmana Ward of Shiroro Local Government, Niger State where they killed several persons, injured and abducted many others including four Chinese nationals working in the site.

The Co-convener, Concerned Shiroro Youths Of Niger State, Sani Abubakar Yusuf Kokki, as well as the Niger State Government confirmed the incident in separate statements issued on Thursday which were obtained by Africa Daily News, New York.

In a statement, Kokki said; ‘During yesterday’s deadly encounter, a large number of casualties were instantly recorded at the said mining site being owned and managed

While reacting to the abduction of one of their colleagues, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Zamfara branch, has announced that it is making serious efforts to secure the release of the Medical Director of Dansadau General Hospital, who was abducted by bandits on June 25.

Dr Mannir Bature, the state NMA Chairman, had made this announcement in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau on Wednesday.

Bandits, Kidnappers To Face Death Penalty In Zamfara

As part of measures to tackle insecurity, Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has approved the death penalty for bandits, kidnapper among several others.

The governor appended his signature to the law on Tuesday in Gusau, shortly after the House of Assembly recommended the death penalty for criminal elements.

Following the signing of the bill for the prosecution of banditry, cattle rustling, cultism, kidnapping, and incidental offences into law, Matawalle said the law will serve as an instrument to prosecute offenders of the crimes in the state.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday abducted the Medical Director of Dansadau General Hospital in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
