Unknown Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have allegedly murdered seven people in Edo State.

According to reports, it was gathered that those killed include some farmers at Ugboke, Oshodi, Okokodo, Ariyan, and Yoruba Camp in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.

An indigene of the area, Mrs. Janet Ighodaro, alleged that gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen, stormed the Yoruba camp as a base to launch an attack into various communities in the state.

The village head of Kusherki in Rafi local government area of Niger state, Alhaji Masud Abubakar has been killed alongside ten  other villagers by bandits.  The bandits also kidnapped twenty villagers from different communities in the area while the wife of the slain traditional ruler was among those kidnapped.

An eyewitness told our Correspondent that the raid started at about 12:30 and lasted till around 2:pm unabated. ‘If you kill a herder, don’t go and sleep, we will revisit you,’ Those were the words of the National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhassan Saleh while stating that hurting any herdsman is a debt that must be paid back in due course. 

According to him, people attack herders, and that in one way or the other, herders have found a way to retaliate.

Saleh added that nobody could evict herdsmen from the south, saying that they would resist such a move.

Ondo State Security Network known as Amotekun Corps has arrested Two herdsmen for using their cows to destroy crops at Irese, Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.

Also, 200 cows that destroyed the crops were arrested and taken to the headquarters of the Amotekun Corps in Akure.

The two herders – Muhammed Abu and Musa Saliu-  said they came into Ondo from Ilorin,  Kwara State.

It was gathered that a farmer in the community alerted the Amotekun Corps after the herders allegedly attempted to shoot another farmer for asking them to leave his farm.

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Strike Force on Wednesday disclosed that the CGC has directed the unit to invade warehouses and markets across the South-West for smuggled foreign rice and contraband smuggled into the country.

Speaking against the backdrop of the seizure of 1,930 bags of 50kg smuggled rice evacuated from various warehouses in Lagos and Ogun states, the co-ordinator, CGC’s Strike Force, Zone A, Lagos, Deputy Compt. The Edo State Government has revealed that it has concluded plans to comb the forests in the state for killer herdsmen and rid the state of criminality.

Governor Godwin Obaseki disclosed this after he went on a fact-finding tour in the Ugo community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state during which he reassured the people of his administration’s effort to flush out criminals from the state.

The Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Taraba State, Comrade Peter Jediel, was on Saturday abducted by unknown gunmen.

Jediel was abducted at about 1.00 am on Sunday at his residence in Sunkani, headquarters of the Ardo-Kola local government area.

Ogun Police Command yesterday warned residents of communities in the state to stop attacking Fulani residents living in the state or get ready to face the full weight of the law.

The Police Command yesterday said it arrested three suspects for alleged arson on the residence of Seriki Fulani of Eggua, Adamu Oloru, and the Kara market.
