$1.7bn Tax Fraud: UAE Rejects Extradition Of Briton

In a very controversial ruling, a Dubai court has on Monday rejected Denmark’s extradition request for a Briton who had been accused of robbing the Danish state of 1.7 billion euros through co-ordinated tax fraud, one of his lawyers told AFP.

Sanjay Shah who is a Hedge fund trader had been arrested in June by Dubai police by Denmark’s request and he had been accused of running a scheme for three years from 2012 in which foreign firms pretended to own some of the shares in Danish companies and claimed tax refunds.

A court in  Sweden has sentenced an 18-year-old student to life in jail over the killing of two teachers with an axe sometime in March of this year. He is believed to be the youngest person to receive the sentence in Sweden’s modern history.

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Sunday abducted no fewer than 32 travellers around Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The victims were reportedly returning from a burial ceremony in Edo State yesterday when the incident happened.

A lawyer at the Gwadangaji area in Birnin Kebbi local government area of Kebbi State, Barrister Attahiru Ibrahim, was on Saturday gruesomely murdered by gunmen.

 

Attahiru according to the police spokesman in the state, SP Nafiu Abubakar, was killed by people yet unknown but his wife, Farida, was arrested in connection with the incident.
