Gunmen kill priest, 5 others during mass in Burkina Faso

Armed attackers killed a priest and five worshippers during mass on Sunday in an attack on a Catholic church in northern Burkina Faso.

The attackers – numbering between 20 and 30 – managed to trap some of the people inside then set fire to the church in the town of Dablo, about 200km from the capital Ouagadougou.

Several shops were also torched before they headed to the local health centre, which they looted and then torched the chief nurse’s vehicle.

Tanzanian apprehended for selling daughter for body parts

A Tanzanian man has been arrested for selling his six-year-old daughter to be killed so that her body parts could be used in a potion to make him rich, police said Saturday.

A police statement said that the child, Rose Japhet, was killed last week and her body found in the southwestern district of Mbeya, in a region has been hit by a spate of ritual killings of children.

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Friday remanded 31-year-old Godspower Johnson accused of beating his wife to death during a fight over sex.

Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji, ordered that Godspower should be kept at the Ikoyi Prison, Lagos, for the next 30 days pending  advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the case.

Jobless man sentenced to prison for touching girl’s breasts

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced an unemployed man, Ilias Mudashiru, to six months imprisonment for touching a girl’s breast in decently and stabbing her relatives.

Magistrate F. O. Sasanya convicted Mudashiru, 29, following his plea of “guilty” to a three-count charge of conspiracy, indecent assault and assault occasioning harm.

The offences contravened Sections 173, 263 (i) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

She sentenced Mudashiru after listening to the review of facts given by prosecuting Sergeant Godspower Ehizoba.
