FC Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has reiterated that it is not the right moment to talk about potential transfers — particularly regarding Álvarez — as the club focuses on getting its injured players back and stabilising squad fitness. In remarks made after a charity event, Deco was blunt: “He’s an Atlético player. We won’t talk about players from other teams, because when we do, some people get upset.”

The comments come amid renewed speculation linking Barcelona with a big-name signing in attack — including Álvarez. While previous reports had listed him among realistic targets to succeed veteran strike options, Deco insisted that such talk is off the agenda for now. He described it as “not the time to talk about signings,” pointing instead to the need for the club to recover from a wave of injuries that disrupted their attacking line-up earlier in the season.

Deco pointed out that during periods when forwards like Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski were unavailable, the club’s performance dipped — but with many of them now fit again, he believes the squad has enough quality and depth to compete without rash transfers.

Furthermore, Deco dismissed the notion that Barcelona are actively pursuing Álvarez at this time. He emphasised that publicly discussing players from other clubs risks stirring tensions and that the club’s immediate priority remains stability and internal cohesion. “We have to talk about our own,” he said.

The message is clear: Barcelona are not ruling out future reinforcements, but for now, they are focusing on recovery, squad health, and consolidation. Any potential moves — even for high-profile names — will be approached with caution, pragmatism, and only when the time is right.
