Liverpool have officially made a new contract renewal offer to Ibrahima Konaté, but the centre-back has yet to give an answer, leaving his future uncertain. The 26-year-old’s current deal runs until June 2026, and despite the Reds’ efforts to keep him, Konaté continues to weigh his options amid growing external interest — most notably from Real Madrid.

According to reports, Liverpool’s latest offer comes with urgency, as they aim to avoid losing Konaté on a free transfer next summer. The Reds reportedly value the defender highly, seeing him as a key pillar in their backline alongside Virgil van Dijk.

On the other side, Real Madrid’s interest in Konaté has intensified. The Spanish club are reportedly prepared to make a move, viewing the Frenchman as a long-term target. According to reports, Madrid may pursue him on a free transfer in 2026, following a model they’ve used with other Liverpool players.

Liverpool’s negotiation strategy appears to reflect this risk: if Konaté refuses to commit to a new deal, they could be forced to sell him earlier than planned. According to some sources, the club may value him at around €40.5 million, a figure that underscores his importance but also their fear of a repeat of previous free-agent losses.

For his part, Konaté is said to be pushing for a significant pay rise. Reports suggest his demands are well above his current wages, potentially complicating talks. Meanwhile, he and his representatives have stressed that any final decision about his future will come soon.

If no agreement is reached, 2026 could see Konaté move on — and Real Madrid may be ready to capitalize.
