Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former California prosecutor and television personality closely associated with U.S. President Donald Trump, has officially assumed office as the new U.S. ambassador to Greece, marking a historic appointment as the first woman to hold the post.
Guilfoyle, 56, presented her diplomatic credentials on Tuesday to Greek President Constantine Tassoulas during a formal ceremony in Athens. She was sworn in on Sept. 29 in Washington before departing for Greece, where she attended a weekend welcome gala alongside senior government officials and business leaders.
Her appointment comes at a pivotal time in U.S.–Greek relations, as Washington seeks to deepen energy and defence cooperation across southeastern Europe. The United States has been working to expand liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports through Greek port facilities, strengthening the region’s energy independence from Russia.

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum are expected in Athens this week for high-level discussions aimed at increasing Western gas supplies to Ukraine via a modified multinational pipeline network.
Guilfoyle and the visiting officials are also scheduled to meet with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and participate in sessions hosted by the Atlantic Council, focusing on transatlantic energy security and investment opportunities.
Since 2018, Athens and Washington have bolstered military cooperation through expanded access to Greek bases and growing involvement of U.S. defence firms in Greece’s armed forces modernisation programme, valued at several billion dollars. The partnership has become a key component of NATO’s southeastern flank amid ongoing instability in the broader region.
Speaking at the black-tie reception held in her honour over the weekend, Guilfoyle expressed optimism about the future of U.S.–Greek ties. “I know we will do amazing things for these two exceptional countries,” she told guests after joining in a traditional Greek dance. “I will not disappoint the United States of America. I shall not disappoint Greece.”
At the credentials ceremony, she followed newly appointed ambassadors from Norway and Canada, Harriet Berg and Sonya Thissen, respectively.
Before her diplomatic appointment, Guilfoyle served as a prosecutor in San Francisco and later co-hosted Fox News’ The Five. She has long been a prominent figure in conservative political circles and was previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr.
