Nigerian music star Davido said Akwa Ibom State was selected as the first stop of his tour in Nigeria because the state has the right facilities to host large concerts. He spoke in Uyo on Sunday at a reception held by Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio ahead of his scheduled performance.
Davido said his team considered five cities across the continent and Akwa Ibom ranked first. According to him, the stadium in Uyo offered the standard needed for a major concert.
He also praised the atmosphere in the state and the support shown to young people.
He said, “Everything about Akwa Ibom is beautiful. If all states were like this, I would be touring across the entire country. When we were looking around Africa, five places came up and Akwa Ibom was at the top of the list. A lot of people are flying in from other states that do not have this kind of facility.”
Davido added that his American tour was a success and that he expected a similar result in Nigeria. He said the stadium was already filled ahead of the show and told fans to get ready.

Senate President Akpabio commended Davido for placing the state on the tour map. He said the singer has mentored many young performers and encouraged him to include emerging acts from Akwa Ibom as he travels abroad.
Governor Eno thanked Davido for inspiring Nigerian youth. He said the state is focused on developing talent in music and entertainment.
“We want to thank you for being an inspiration to the younger generation. Your commitment has taken your career to the top and it shows young people that what they work for can be achieved,” the governor said. He added that the opportunity for local artists to share the same stage would strengthen their ambitions.
Akwa Ibom has hosted several sporting and entertainment events at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, built in 2014. Officials said the concert would help boost local business and attract more events in the future.
The tour is expected to continue in other parts of Nigeria after the Uyo show.
