Former Mexico international and Chivas legend Omar Bravo, aged 45, was arrested on 4 October 2025 in Zapopan, Jalisco, on suspicion of child sexual abuse, according to the Jalisco state prosecutor’s office and multiple news agencies including the Associated Press.

Authorities allege that Bravo “abused a teenage girl on several occasions in recent months,” and that preliminary investigations suggest he may have committed similar offenses in prior years. Law enforcement officials expect him to appear before a judge soon while the investigations continue.

Bravo rose to fame during his long tenure at Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas), where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer. He also represented Mexico at tournaments including the 2004 Olympics and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. His football career spanned domestic and international stages before he transitioned into coaching and sports commentary.

In response to the arrest, Bravo has not yet issued a public statement, and his legal representation has so far remained silent. Social media reactions have been mixed, with many fans expressing shock, disbelief, or support amid the unfolding allegations.

Legal experts caution that the charges remain allegations at this stage. Should Bravo be formally indicted or face trial, the case could involve aggravated sexual abuse charges under Jalisco law, which carry severe penalties.

As the case develops, public scrutiny is likely to intensify. While Bravo’s legacy as a footballer is substantial, these serious allegations will be judged in a court of law. The presumption of innocence applies until evidence is fully presented and a judicial decision is reached.
