New Zealand advisory for its citizens urges caution for travelers to the US, Europe, and beyond amid rising threats of terrorism, unrest, and violent crime.

New Zealand has issued a sweeping winter travel advisory warning its citizens to exercise heightened caution in several popular global destinations, including the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Italy, Egypt, and Jamaica. The advisory cites growing risks linked to terrorism, civil unrest, and violent crime as international tensions and instability continue to rise.

The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the alert reflects “a period of elevated global volatility,” with travelers urged to remain vigilant and stay informed through official channels before and during their trips. The move places New Zealand alongside countries such as Spain, Germany, the UK, Italy, Egypt, Jamaica, and the US, which have all issued or updated travel warnings in recent months.

Among the countries singled out, the United Kingdom was flagged for its continuing threat of terrorism and frequent public demonstrations that can turn violent without warning. Authorities advised visitors to avoid protests, secure personal belongings, and monitor local news for updates.

In the United States, New Zealand cited an “increased risk” of terrorism, violent crime, and civil unrest, noting the prevalence of shootings and natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires. Travelers were urged to remain cautious in major cities and familiarize themselves with emergency procedures.

Spain was also highlighted due to persistent terrorism threats and petty crime targeting tourists in major cities like Barcelona and Madrid. The advisory urged visitors to stay alert in crowded areas and avoid demonstrations, particularly in politically tense regions such as Catalonia.

Elsewhere, Jamaica was listed for its high levels of violent and gang-related crime, while Egypt was noted for sporadic terrorist attacks and political unrest, particularly in the North Sinai region. Italy was flagged for frequent petty theft in tourist hotspots, and Saudi Arabia for its proximity to regional conflict zones and risks of drone and missile attacks near the Yemeni border.

Officials advised New Zealanders to obtain comprehensive travel insurance, follow local security guidance, and avoid non-essential travel to high-risk areas.

“As global security dynamics shift, preparation and vigilance are key,” the advisory concluded. “Travelers must remain aware, informed, and proactive to ensure safe and responsible travel abroad.”
