Manchester United secured a 2-1 Premier League victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, marking their first win at the venue since January 2016, ending the Nine-year drought.
The win not only delivers three precious points to Manchester United but also ends a long-standing hoodoo for the club at Anfield and also deepens the crisis at Liverpool, who have now lost four straight matches across all competitions.
Manager Ruben Amorim collected his first back-to-back league wins at the club, after a series of failed games, while United climbed to 9th in the table. His seat as Manager was already shaky and this win might have gone further to solidify it.
United was quick to distabalize the home side inside the opening minute: Bryan Mbeumo scored just 62 seconds into the match after receiving a pass from Amad Diallo.
Liverpool fought back, all through the first half but failed and we’re only able to equalised in the 78th minute through Cody Gakpo, who finally scored a goal after hitting the woodwork three times earlier.

The decisive moment came in the 84th minute when Harry Maguire rose to head home a Bruno Fernandes corner, sealing Manchester United’s historic win against Liverpool.
Maguire described the win as “everything” for the club, the fans and himself, given the long wait for success at Anfield, and through other matches.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk admitted the second goal was “very sloppy” and called on the team to stay united during this difficult spell of losses. Despite dominating possession and creating chances, Liverpool were let down by misses and defensive lapses — Gakpo’s three woodwork strikes was prove, the defeat is depressing, four straight losses – their worst run since 2014.
They would have to go back to the drawing board and review their game play before it a routine.
