The Las Vegas Aces capped a turbulent season by sweeping the Phoenix Mercury in four straight games to claim their third WNBA title in four years, completing one of the sport’s most remarkable turnarounds. It came Friday night in Phoenix.

Behind that dominant finish, A’ja Wilson captured Finals MVP honours after scoring 112 points across the series — part of a historic season in which she became the first player in league history to win the scoring title, regular-season MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and Finals MVP in a single year.

The Aces’ championship run carries extra weight because of how shaky things looked in the middle part of the season. Their form gotten bad and doubts of finishing with good points had also crept in, even within their own locker room. “To be here right now and where we were in May and June, there was a lot of doubt, besides in that locker room,” said point guard Chelsea Gray. “I’m really proud of how we stayed the course and trusted the process.”

But the team were able to back in form. They closed the regular season on a 16-game winning streak, built momentum heading into the playoffs, and carried it all the way through the Finals where they won the title.

In the championship series, Wilson’s scoring was an important part of the win. She averaged 28 points per game and totaled 112 for the series, securing her second Finals MVP crown. Her all-around dominance elevated the Aces to a new echelon.

From Game 1 onward, Las Vegas controlled the tempo. In Game 4, they sealed the sweep with a 97–86 victory at Phoenix. Wilson had continued to be focal point. In that final game, she delivered 31 points and nine rebounds.

Phoenix had tried to fight back by mounting resistance. In Game 3, Wilson hit a buzzer-beating fadeaway jumper with 0.3 seconds left to clinch a 90–88 win and push Las Vegas to the brink of the title. The 2025 Aces now join an exclusive list in WNBA with these records.
