President Donald Trump launches a national prayer campaign, saying faith and religion are essential for America’s moral strength and “being a good country.”

President Donald Trump said there is “no reason to be good” except to prove one’s faith to God and reach Heaven, as he unveiled a new nationwide prayer initiative aimed at strengthening religious life in the United States.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday, the President announced “America Prays” — a program encouraging citizens to dedicate one hour each day to prayer in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. He described the initiative as a unifying effort that embraces “lots of different faiths and religions,” not just Christianity.

“I’ve felt for a long time that if a country doesn’t have religion, doesn’t have faith, doesn’t have God, it’s going to be very hard to be a good country,” the president said. “You know, there’s no reason to be good — I want to be good because you want to prove to God you’re good, so you go to that next step. That’s very important to me.”

The president, who has frequently spoken about divine purpose since surviving an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania in 2024, linked his comments to his personal faith. The shooting left him with an ear injury and killed a firefighter attending the rally.

After the incident, Trump sent a fundraising email to supporters, saying, “I believe that God saved me for one reason: to make America great again.”

The American President has continued to reference mortality and faith in recent interviews. Last week, he reflected on political tensions and safety concerns, saying, “I want to survive. The rhetoric these crazy Democrats are using is very dangerous; they’ve made politics very dangerous.”

Speculation over Donald Trump’s health has also drawn public attention during his second term. The President has been seen with bruising on his hands and recently disclosed he has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition causing swelling in his ankles.

Reporters noted that he paused public appearances for several days in September, fueling online rumors after the hashtag “Trump Dead” trended on X. He later dismissed the speculation, telling journalists he was unaware of the posts.

Despite ongoing scrutiny of his health and remarks, the president’s America Prays initiative marks a renewed emphasis on religion’s place in American public life — a theme he has increasingly tied to his vision of the country’s moral and spiritual strength.
