Frank Lampard, the Chelsea FC legend, says Blues are still rebuilding, while Arsenal and Liverpool emerge as top contenders for the Premier League crown.
Former Chelsea manager and club legend Frank Lampard, believes this season’s Premier League title race will likely be a two-way battle between Arsenal and Liverpool, ruling out his former club from immediate contention.
Lampard praised the strength and stability of both Arsenal and Liverpool, describing them as the most balanced and competitive sides in the league so far.
Arsenal currently lead the Premier League table with 16 points, just one point ahead of reigning champions Liverpool. Chelsea, meanwhile, sit seventh with 11 points after their narrow 2–1 victory over Arne Slot’s side last weekend.
“You look at how established the Arsenal squad is now and Liverpool, with the power they have in players like Virgil [van Dijk] and [Mohamed] Salah,” Lampard said. “Even though Liverpool are integrating some new players, they’ve still got that core group that knows how to win.”
The former England international, who guided Chelsea through two separate managerial spells, admitted that while the club has improved in recent months, it remains a work in progress.

“The challenge is big for Chelsea,” Lampard acknowledged. “Talent-wise, they’ve come a long way from where they were a couple of years ago. But when I went back there, you could see it was a really difficult period for the club. It takes time to rebuild that identity.”
Chelsea have spent heavily in recent transfer windows under their new ownership, signing a wave of young talents in an attempt to return to the top of English football. However, inconsistency and injuries have hampered their progress.
Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta, have continued their resurgence following last season’s strong title challenge, while Liverpool appear revitalized under Jürgen Klopp after a summer rebuild that saw key midfield reinforcements.
Lampard’s assessment reflects the broader consensus among analysts that Arsenal and Liverpool currently have the experience, depth, and form required to sustain a title push, while Chelsea remain in transition.
As the Premier League season enters its next phase after the international break, attention will turn to whether Arsenal can maintain their early momentum—or if Liverpool’s proven winners can reclaim the crown once again.
