Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has been recalled to the Brazil squad ahead of upcoming friendlies against South Korea and Japan, hoping to restart his international career after being overlooked in recent selections. His return carries weight: Brazil’s new coach, Carlo Ancelotti, was formerly his manager at Real Madrid, and Rodrygo expressed eagerness to repay that faith. With his club minutes limited this season, this call-up could provide a crucial platform to resurrect his standing.

The recall marks the end of a difficult stretch for Rodrygo, who slipped down Real Madrid’s pecking order and was left out of Brazil’s squads in June and September. His last appearance in yellow came in March in a 4–1 loss to Argentina. Now, with friendlies in Seoul and Tokyo ahead, Rodrygo sees a chance to rediscover form and reassert himself on the international stage. In recent season, Rodrygo managed just two starts so far in La Liga.

Asked about his absence, the 24-year-old admitted it was taxing emotionally. “Being away from the Brazil team felt like an eternity. It was difficult, I went through a lot during that period,” he said, adding that the break gave him room to clear his mind. He insisted he now feels prepared to “give my best” and show his qualities with the Seleção.

Rodrygo singled out Ancelotti’s presence as a morale booster. “When you look out and see Ancelotti guiding you, it gives you a different weight,” he said, noting that opponents may also see Brazil under Ancelotti as more formidable. He also praised the former Real boss for the help he provided during challenging times.

Ancelotti, for his part, has defended Rodrygo’s selection. He acknowledged the forward hasn’t had many starts, but emphasized that whenever he has entered matches, he’s performed well. The coach pointed to Rodrygo’s technical skill and adaptability in attack as assets Brazil can use.

Brazil will face South Korea in Seoul on October 10, then travel to Tokyo to take on Japan four days later. These friendlies come at a transitional moment for Brazil under Ancelotti, who is testing lineups ahead of 2026 World Cup qualification.
