AC Milan has secured a €37 million deal with Chelsea for forward Christopher Nkunku, marking a significant move in the summer transfer window. The agreement includes an additional €5 million in performance-related bonuses and a sell-on clause, bringing the potential total value to €42 million.
Nkunku, 27, has agreed to a five-year contract with the Rossoneri, signaling a new chapter in his career.
Nkunku’s tenure at Chelsea was hindered by injuries and inconsistent form, limiting his impact to just six goals in 38 appearances across all competitions. Despite initial expectations following his €60 million move from RB Leipzig in 2023, he struggled to establish himself as a key player under manager Enzo Maresca. Consequently, Chelsea deemed him surplus to requirements, leading to his departure.

The proceeds from Nkunku’s sale are expected to bolster Chelsea’s financial standing, enabling them to pursue additional signings. The club is reportedly targeting Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, with both players valued at approximately €50 million each. Additionally, Chelsea are considering loan options for striker Nicolas Jackson, with Bayern Munich among the interested parties.
This move aligns with Chelsea’s strategy to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, following previous breaches that resulted in fines. The club has already recouped over €500 million through player sales this summer, including departures of Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, and others. The Nkunku transfer further contributes to this financial restructuring.
As Nkunku prepares to embark on his new chapter with AC Milan, Chelsea’s focus shifts to finalizing their incoming transfers and managing their squad for the upcoming season. The club aims to strengthen its lineup while adhering to financial regulations, ensuring a balanced and competitive team for the challenges ahead.
