China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday that Beijing is “keen” to elevate relations with Pakistan to “new heights of cooperation and collaboration,” highlighting the two countries’ long-standing partnership and shared regional interests.
Speaking during his visit to Islamabad, Wang praised Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He assured that China would continue to work closely with Pakistan to promote regional peace, stability, and economic development.
Wang co-chaired the sixth round of China-Pakistan strategic dialogue with his Pakistani counterpart, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, at the Foreign Ministry earlier on Thursday. The discussions focused on deepening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, infrastructure, defense, and regional security. Both sides emphasized their “all-weather friendship,” a term long used to describe their enduring strategic partnership.
In addition to the dialogue, Wang met with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, who expressed gratitude for China’s consistent support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, national development, and principled stance on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. Zardari stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations to benefit the people of both nations and foster regional stability.

Wang’s visit comes ahead of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s scheduled trip to China at the end of August. Sharif will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Beijing and participate in events marking the end of World War II, underlining Pakistan’s engagement with regional and global multilateral platforms.
China and Pakistan have historically maintained close economic, military, and diplomatic ties, with major initiatives such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) symbolizing the depth of their collaboration. Analysts note that Wang’s visit signals Beijing’s intent to further consolidate its strategic footprint in South Asia, strengthen bilateral projects, and advance a shared agenda on regional security and development.
As both nations reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration, the dialogue highlighted the ongoing importance of mutual support, trust, and partnership in addressing regional challenges and promoting sustainable growth, signaling a continued deepening of Sino-Pakistani ties in the coming years.
