Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati reaffirmed his country’s commitment to mediating a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, stressing that Cairo would continue its diplomatic engagement with both Qatar and the United States.

Speaking on Monday during a joint press conference with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa at the Rafah border crossing, Abdel Aati criticized what he described as Israel’s deliberate campaign to starve Gaza’s residents.

“The Israeli occupation is working to change the reality in the Gaza Strip by pushing the population southwards,” Abdel Aati told reporters. He emphasized Egypt’s rejection of all attempts to displace Palestinians from their land, calling the notion of a “Greater Israel” an illusion that will not be allowed to materialize. “The illusions and arrogance of power will not achieve security for Israel or the region,” he said.

The Egyptian minister also outlined Cairo’s practical support for Gaza, noting that Egypt is organizing training programs to equip Palestinian personnel with the skills to manage security responsibilities within the Strip. “Egypt stands with the Palestinian people in achieving their legitimate, inalienable rights, self-determination, and the establishment of an independent state,” Abdel Aati said.

Palestinian Prime Minister Mustafa, speaking alongside Abdel Aati, highlighted the critical role of international aid in addressing Gaza’s humanitarian crisis. He called for stronger, more effective pressure on Israel to allow aid trucks to enter the territory, stressing that the continued blockade prevents life-saving assistance from reaching those in need.

Mustafa further condemned the use of starvation as a weapon, urging the international community to exert all possible efforts to halt the Israeli war on Gaza. “It is imperative to stop using hunger as a tool of warfare against civilians,” he said, underscoring the urgency of immediate intervention.

The joint statements at Rafah reflected a unified call for diplomacy, humanitarian access, and long-term solutions to Gaza’s ongoing crisis. As Egypt continues to mediate behind the scenes, both officials conveyed a clear message: the people of Gaza cannot be treated as pawns in political maneuvering, and any path toward peace and stability must prioritize human lives and dignity.

With the humanitarian situation worsening by the day, Egypt’s efforts signal an ongoing commitment to not only broker ceasefire agreements but also support Gaza’s self-determination and sovereignty in tangible, actionable ways.
