Guinea Junta Gives Order To Try Ex-President Conde In Court

In a recent controversial directive, Guinea’s ruling junta have on Thursday given a fresh directive for all the prosecutors to take  up a series of legal actions against the former president of the Country, Alpha Conde, whom it had overthrown in a 2021 coup, and more than 180 other officials and ex-ministers, notably for alleged corruption.

The military, which had also seized power on September 5, 2021, had also made the fight against corruption which is reputed to be endemic in the West African nation one of its key battles in their military administration.

In a fresh development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have reportedly  sworn in up to 19 newly-appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in an appointment which would be coming ahead of the 2023 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who had also performed the ceremony on Thursday at the INEC headquarters in Abuja had also warned most of the officials that they would not to be visitors to government houses in order to maintain their neutrality in the matter.

The Oyo State Deputy Chairman of the Labour Party, Mayoress Olubukola Olayinka, on Tuesday, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with hundreds of his followers.

Qatar Confirms Seizure Of 144 Fake World Cup Trophies

Authorities in Qatar have asserted that they have seized 144 counterfeit World Cup trophies following the latest raid on fakes hitting the market ahead of the football tournament that starts o November 20.

The disclosure was made on Wednesday by the interior ministry which said officers launched an operation “acting on a piece of information about a website that promotes the sale of cups that mimic the true shape of the World Cup.”

It released a photo showing the 144 life-sized trophies laid out across a floor and stated that “further legal procedures will be followed”.
