2023: INEC Deletes 2.7 Million Ineligible Registrants

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has again made another announcement which revealed that it has discovered 2.7 million cases of some double registration which had been carried out during the recently concluded Continuous Voter Registration.

The commission  had also revealed that all the affected persons have been deleted from the voter register.

The Nigerian House of Representatives has made a fresh directive to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to make sure that they fully suspend the planned sales of Polaris Bank, one of the financial institutions in Nigeria.

The House of Reps has also resolved that they would be setting up an ad hoc committee which would be intended to investigate the interest of the federal government in the bank before its sales.

13 Reported Dead In Two Days Of Syria Rebel Clashes

Fresh reports reaching the desk of Africa Daily News, New York has revealed that up to thirteen people who are mostly fighters have been found to have been murdered in the two days of ongoing clashes between some of the rival factions competing for power in northwest Syria, a war monitor said Wednesday.

The terrible fighting between the two pro-Turkish Syrian rebel groups began in the town of Al-Bab in northern Aleppo province before spreading to other areas and drawing in other factions, the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Russia Designates Meta As ‘Terrorist And Extremist’ Group

Russia on Wednesday included US tech giant Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, to a list of which it has labelled as ‘terrorist and extremist’ organisations, according to a database of the Federal Service for Financial Monitoring (Rosfinmonitoring) which was sighted by Africa Daily News, New York. 

Recall that in late March, Russia had announced a ban on Facebook and Instagram for allegedly ‘carrying out extremist activities’ after authorities accused Meta of tolerating what it described as ‘Russophobia’ during Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine.

2023: Wike Appoints 14,359 Advisers, Liaison Officers

The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has confirmed the appointment of a total of 14,359 persons as advisers and liaison officers for various political units in the State.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri which was made available to Africa Daily News, New York, the governor disclosed that a total of 14,000 persons were appointed as advisers while 359 persons were appointed as liaison officers for local governments and wards.

The statement disclosed that the appointments were with immediate effect.
