Djokovic Clinches 90th Career Title With Astana Victory

Novak Djokovic has finally claimed the 90th title of his career which would also count as the fourth of 2022 with a series of dominant straight-sets victory over ar Stefanos Tsitsipas in the ATP final in Astana on Sunday.

The 35-year-old Djokovic had seamlessly triumphed 6-3, 6-4 in 75 minutes to also add to the trophies he had won this season in Israel, Rome and at Wimbledon and it was the ninth consecutive match victory for the fourth seed, who had guaranteed himself a spot at the 2022 ATP Finals as a result of the win.

Aregbesola Gives Directive For Release Of 30% Of Prison Inmates

Mr Rauf Aregbesola who is the Nigerian Minister of Interior has revealed that he will be meeting with the state Governors to finalise an agreement on the mass release of at least 30 per cent of most of the inmates from custodial centres all across the country.

Aregbesola had also made this known in while he had been participating in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday and he had also reiterated that the interface was necessary as more than 90 per cent of the inmates had been held for contravening various state laws.

War: Death Toll From Missiles On Ukraine Town Climbs To 14

No fewer than 14 people have so far been confirmed dead after seven Russian missiles struck the industrial town of Zaporizhzhia in southern Ukraine, the town council’s secretary announced yesterday night. 

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that the missiles struck before dawn on Friday, with three landing just around the town centre, just 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the artillery battles of the southern front.

‘Sad news keeps coming to us from the analysis of the buildings hit during the attack,’ said Anatoly Kurtev via Telegram.

‘For now the number of dead has gone up to 14.’

Popular Nigerian multi-award-winning writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has called on youths to give up social media for some weeks, and channel their efforts toward imbibing the culture of reading.

The novelist made this disclosure yesterday while speaking at the at the Harvard Centre Honors, Massachusetts, US, where she received W.E.B Du Bois Medal honour.

Adichie said, ‘And so for you young people, I just want to make a very small suggestion, how about you give up social media for you know, two weeks, three weeks, a month, and read, read, read.’

Men of the Nigeria immigration service (NIS), Kebbi state command on Sunday confirmed the interception of no fewer than 21 almajiris, one cleric Hussaini Salmanu Idris an indigene of Niger state at Kangiwa border in Kebbi state while on routine patrol.

Ahead of next year’s general elections, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, has called on the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, and other appointees of the current admnistration to campaign openly for the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu or resign their appointments.
