Bandits Killed 10 Teachers, Kidnapped 50 In Kaduna – AUSUSS

The Kaduna State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), has made an open allegation that some of the bandits who have been besieging the State have massacred over 10 teachers and have also kidnapped more than 50 others across the 23 local government areas of the state since January.

The Union had also made an open call on Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i to use every means possible to rescue most of the unfortunate teachers and other kidnapped victims still in captivity.

The section of the Nigerian House of Representatives Committee who have been in charge of investigating for the duplication of functions of Ministries, Departments and Agencies In Nigeria have on Wednesday discussed the major possibility of actually merging the Nigeria Communications Commission and also the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

The senate committee had also raised the possibility of this merger when Umar Danbatta who is the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, appeared before the Committee.

FG Registers Two Varsity Unions, Moves To Weaken ASUU

In a bid to weaken the influence of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Federal Government of Nigeria, on Tuesday, registered two unions in the university system.

The unions are the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics and the Congress of Nigerian University Academics.

The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, made this known while speaking during the presention of the certificates of registration to the two unions explained that the two bodies will exist alongside ASUU.

The United States and South Korea have carried out a series of missile drills in response to North Korea’s first ballistic missile launch over Japan since 2017.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated its commitment and readiness to rid the forthcoming 2023 general election of vote-buying through its existing partnership with the security and anti-graft agencies in the country.

The National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye, made this disclosure during an expert meeting on election logistics for the 2023 general election held in Lagos on Tuesday.

Okoye, while giving updates on the commission’s efforts to curb financial inducements at polling units, said anyone found culpable would be apprehended.

The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has filed a suit against Meta Platforms Incorporated, owners of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, and its agent, AT3 Resources Limited, at the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division.

ARCON is seeking a declaration, among others, that the continued publication and exposure of various advertisements directed at the Nigerian market through Facebook and Instagram platforms by Meta Platforms Incorporated, without ensuring the same is vetted and approved before exposure, is illegal, unlawful, and a violation of the extant advertising law in Nigeria.
