Atletico Blasted By Spain PM Over Vinicius Racism Incident

Pedro Sanchez who is the Spanish prime minister has openly condemned and berated Atletico Madrid on Tuesday for not taking a full stand against some of the racist chants which had emanated from their supporters aimed at Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior.

Some sectors of the crowd chanted “You are a monkey, Vinicius, you are a monkey,” before and during Real Madrid’s 2-1 win at Atletico’s Metropolitano stadium on Sunday, while some of the missiles which had also included lighters had been thrown at him and Brazilian compatriot Rodrygo as they celebrated a goal.

NANS Threatens To Shut Down Yola Airport Over ASUU Strike

In lieu of their recently coordinated protests all over the country, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has threatened that on Friday, they will be shutting down the Yola International Airport in Adamawa State over the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Zone E chapter of NANS which is to effect the shutdown of the Yola Airport, has also revealed that it will be in line with NANS nationwide ‘Occupy The Airport’ protest over the lingering ASUU strike.

Switzerland Signs Contract For Supply Of 36 US Fighter Jets

Switzerland on Monday signed a controversial contract to buy 36 US F-35 stealth fighter jets at a cost of more than six billion francs ($6.2 billion).

‘National Armaments Director Martin Sonderegger and the Swiss F-35A Program Manager Darko Savic signed the procurement contract on 19 September 2022 at armasuisse in Bern,’ said armasuisse, the country’s arms procurement agency.

‘With this, the procurement of 36 F-35A is contractually agreed,’ it added.

The selection of the F-35 by the Swiss government in June 2021 sparked some controversy, particularly in light of the cost-overruns of the fighter programme in the United States.
