In lieu of the rising need to revitalise the research sector in the Country, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that it would be committing over ₦500 million to some of the Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions across the country to further facilitate for the increase in research and innovations to promote developments in the Nigerian telecommunications industry.

Prof. Umar Danbatta who is the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission had made this disclosure at a two-day Regional Roundtable with Academia, Industry and Other Stakeholders which ended in Kano at the weekend.

Tension is brewing currently after a drone attack on the Russian fleet in the Crimean port of Sebastopol on Sunday left no fewer than five people, the Russian-annexed city’s mayor Mikhail Razvozhayev disclosed.

‘This morning, Ukrainian nationalists decided to spoil the Day of the Russian Fleet’ being celebrated on Sunday, he said on Telegram, adding that five people, including employees of the army staff, had been wounded.

Confusion As UN Peacekeepers Open Fire In DR Congo

A yet-to-be-identified number of people have been killed and several others were injured after United Nations peacekeepers opened fire at a border post in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the UN has revealed.

A video of the incident which was obtained by Africa Daily News, New York shared on social media, showed men – at least one in police uniform and another in army uniform – advancing towards the immobilised UN convoy behind a closed barrier in Kasindi.

The governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal on Sunday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo in what his team has described as a meeting to discuss national issues.

A Special Assistant to the former president on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, made this disclosure in a statement on Sunday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The meeting, he revealed, took place at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Penthouse residence of the former Nigerian leader in Abeokuta.
