The Federal Government has opposed the request by five Republican senators from the United States that Nigeria is reclassified as a nation of particular concern due to alleged persecution of Christians.

The senators who made the appeal also claimed that Nigerian Christians’ freedom to practise their religion had been violated in a letter to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Gunmen Kill Security Man, Raze Down Filling Station In Ondo

There was mild pandemonium yesterday in Igoba community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State following the killing of a security guard whose name was given as ‘Mr Sunday’ by gunmen.

The yet-to-be-identified attackers who also set the station ablaze shot and killed the security guard who was manning the Titolu Venture filling station in the community.

The manager of the station, Ajisafe Oluwatobiloba, revealed that while attempting to determine what started the fire, they came upon the body of the security guard.

27 Murdered In Twin Jihadist Attacks In Burkina Faso

No fewer than 27 people were killed by suspected jihadists in attacks on villages in northern Burkina Faso at the weekend, authorities have confirmed.

A security official provided an estimate death toll, stating that ‘approximately 15’ individuals, some of them were children, were slain late Sunday near Bourasso in the Kossi province.

A local resident estimated there were 20 or so fatalities.

‘Armed men moved around the village at around 5:00 pm, firing in the air. They came back at night and blindly opened fire on people,’ the source said.
